PACKAGING
Materials packaging must be efficient, inexpensive and robust. Finite element modelling is an invaluable tool for the analysis of packaging materials as they are often composed of complex geometries and materials. For this very reason, Rockfield has been engaged to provide an understanding on the integrity of several products by use of its finite element/discrete element software, ELFEN. RTA projects in this field include:
Rockfield has particular simulation abilities in the plastics; glass and metal can package industries. Our finite element analyses can provide clients with insight into the effectiveness of package development. Work in this area has involved such cases as: the analysis of ring pull cans and the effect of different levels of lid scoring; buckling forces required to compress cans; comparison of can designs and residual stresses resultant from plastic molding. Rockfield has been able to reduce packaging costs and product damage for our clients, through careful analysis and design.
