Tensile and Compressive Strength Testing

Tensile and Compressive Strength TestingRTA utilises precision, calibrated uniaxial testing machines to deliver material yield and ultimate strength testing in accordance with Australian Standards. In addition, Poisson ratio results are obtainable via the integration of precision lateral deflection measurements, making this testing service ideal for the basic material characterisations required for accurate finite element modelling (FEM). With 10kN - 1000kN machines available, strength testing of most engineering materials is available.

Cyclic Uniaxial Testing

Cyclic Uniaxial TestingAs an extension to yield and ultimate strength testing, RTA can facilitate cyclic loading tests. This service is ideal for establishing prototype component performance under a simulated period of extended operation.

High cycle machine rates (>5Hz) means that simulations of extended service can be executed in compact timeframes.

Flexure Testing

Flexure TestingRTA can conduct 3-point and 4-point flexure testing (including destructive testing) at many scales, ranging from small material samples up to large concrete girders measuring well in excess of 10 metres. Flexure testing is ideal for establishing remnant strength of aged or deteriorated structural elements, and is also a proven method for determining an effective material stiffness (Young's Modulus). Post-test forensic examinations are also available on request.

Hardness Testing

Hardness TestingRTA can facilitate hardness testing of most engineering materials. Available hardness testing methods/indenters include the full Rockwell scale, Brinell and Vicker's. Rockwell testing is most commonly used as a means for determining macro-scale material hardness, with the ability to obtain fast results for most applications. Methods such as Vicker?s are typically warranted when very localised (i.e. grain level) results are desired.

Charpy Impact Testing

Charpy impact testing measures the energy absorbed by a material during fracture. It is essentially a comparative measure of material toughness and can be used to qualitatively assess a sample's ductility. Charpy impact is a standard test method for assessing weld quality. RTA utilises a 300 Joule, dual range Avery Impact Tester for facilitating Charpy measurements.
